Venue

The summer school's venue is at TU Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany. The lectures take place at the rooms 045 and 046 in the BRICS (Braunschweig Integrated Centre of Systems Biology) building, Rebenring 56, 38106 Braunschweig.

Within Braunschweig, the venue is easily reachable via bus (Bus 346, Station "Pockelstraße") or via tram (Tram 3 Station "Gließmaroder Straße" or Trams 1, 2 and 10 Station "Hamburger Straße").

Since Braunschweig is of moderate size, the city is also very walkable: The venue can be reached from the main train station "Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof" within a 40 minute walk, from the famous Braunschweig Lion right in the city center within 25 min and from the hotel Plaza Inn Braunschweig Nord within 12 minutes.

There is also the opportunity to use bikesharing.

Getting to Braunschweig

By train

Braunschweig can easily be reached via train to "Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof". There exists various connections via highspeed ICE, intercity IC and regional trains. Check out the Deutsche Bahn website for tickets and time tables. For reference, a direct ICE connection from "Berlin Hauptbahnhof" is about 90 min, twice per hour there are regional trains from "Hannover Hauptbahnhof" taking approximately 45 min, and from "Frankfurt Flughafen" (Frankfurt airport), you can reach Braunschweig within 3 - 4h, depending on the connection.

By car

Braunschweig is connected to the Autobahn A2 between Berlin and the Ruhr area, the Autobahn A39 between Wolfsburg, Braunschweig and Salzgitter, with a link to the A7 towards Frankfurt am Main/München, and the A395 between Braunschweig and the Harz Montains towards Halle/Leipzig. Be aware that parking space the university may be limited. Check out the campus map for parking lots.

By plane

The easiest way is to fly to the airports in Frankfurt am Main (FRA), Berlin (BER), or Hannover (HAJ) and afterwards take the train to Braunschweig.

Where to stay

We have blocked 12 rooms at the hotel Plaza Inn Braunschweig Nord that is in walking distance of the university. You can book one of the rooms via the keyword "Algebra" until 13th July, 2025 either via Phone +49 531 - 3808 5200, or email to info@hotel-plaza-inn-braunschweig.com . If the blocked rooms are already fully reserved by other participants, there might be additional spots available between June 30st and July 13th. Also, if you would like to stay at this hotel and the blocked rooms are booked, you are of course free to ask for a room without the keyword, e.g. via booking.com . This is also the hotel where the recipients of the travel support will be lodged. We ask applicants for the travel funding to not yet book a hotel room, you will receive further information about this after the application deadline.

The first two options are rather in the lower price segments, where the latter options are rather in the medium or higher price segments:

• Jugendherberge, youth hostel in the city center, close to a statue of Carl Friedrich Gauss
• CVJM Hotel am Wollmarkt, close to the Inselwallpark
• Hotel Deutsches Haus, right in the old city center, close to the cathedral
• Magni Boutique Hotel in the old town Magniviertel
• Best Western City Hotel Braunschweig, also in the city center

Where to eat

We list a few canoncial lunch options that are within walking distance of the venue:

• Right at the campus there is the university cafeteria Mensa 1 offering several dishes per day with vegetarian and vegan options. See the link for a daily meal plan. The Mensa 1 is only open on weekdays, and additionally offers dinner on Mondays-Thurdays.
• Closeby options for dishes with Falafel are the Falafelhaus and Falafeli, both open every day
• Pizzawerk is a pizza restaurant right next to the university and the botanical garden, open every day
• The bakery Steinecke is open on weekdays and on Saturday until 11.00 a.m.
• There is a Rewe supermarket within walking distance of the university, it is closed on Sundays
